“For me it’s about knowing which leg of the horse is about to lift. Walk your horse out, let your legs hang loose and feel the swing of the ribcage. When it swings right the left hind leg is about to come forward. Get a feel so you can influence/ride the next stride – then when you know how your horse is moving you can ask him for things – changes of pace and direction, a turn, a canter departure etc, in such a way that it’s easy for him to arrange his limbs and you can go smoothly together. And before that you need to have his attention and his mind so he is able to listen to you. Both horse and rider tuning in. It’s fun, inspiring, a challenge……..it’s horses.”
