Shoulder-Fore is a baby Shoulder-In

Shoulder-fore is a lateral movement which encourages your horse to take more weight onto his hind legs and step actively underneath his body. Although it’s not a required movement in any Cowboy Dressage tests it’s a really useful flat work exercise to do with your horse. It’s great for developing straightness and improving balance.

The inside leg remains active at the girth. The outside leg is slightly behind the girth to prevent the haunches from swinging out.

How to Execute the Shoulder Fore
Start in working walk. Ride a 10 meter circle in the corner of the arena. While circling, increase the inside leg and outside rein aids. The inside leg remains active at the girth. The outside leg is slightly behind the girth to prevent the haunches from swinging out.
Maintain the bend and proceed down the long side bringing the forehand off the track.
Once the shoulders and forelegs have left the track, increase the outside rein aid to prevent the horse from over bending to the inside.
The shoulder fore should be completed by riding your horse forward.
